FAQs

Sounds good to me most frequently asked questions and their answers

What is Sounds good to me?

Sounds good to me is an online course designed by speech pathologists for early years educators.

We know from experience that many children start school without sound awareness (also referred to as phonological awareness) and that this is one reason children struggle to learn to read and write at school.

As an early educator, you can teach sound awareness and give children the very best chance of success at school.

Our online training course will show you all you need to know to teach phonological awareness, plus you get access to all the materials and resources you need to implement the program in your centre, including a resource kit delivered to your door.

Who is it for?

The course is for educators working with children in the pre-school and early school years. It is suitable for educators at every level, including entry level.

The program can be used in child care centres, preschools, schools and early intervention services.

Sounds good to me is an extensive 11 module course (over four hours of training delivered in short video lessons), approximately equivalent to a one-day workshop.

Centre Educator Membership allow team access to online course and resources for up to 4 users, with additional users aviable to purchase. We also have a single user Educator membership available.

We have created a separate course specifically suited to educators working in the Family Day Care sector.

What age-range is suitable for Sounds good to me?

The program is designed for children in the year before they start school.

Children aged 3-6 years can participate in all the activities, however, the focus is school readiness, so the program is ideally to children during the year before they start formal education.

You can include younger children in the activities as this will target early phonological awareness.

It is also suitable for children already at school who don’t have phonological awareness.

What knowledge/qualifications are required prior to starting the Educators course?

None. A willingness to learn and access to the internet are all you need to get started.

How do I register my co-workers?

Click through to ‘purchase now’.

Once your online order is processed, you receive an email with your log-in details.

You can then add up to 3 additional users. To add co-workers, use the tab ‘manage my team’ and add email addresses of your nominated users. They will each receive an email with unique log in details.

Can I just use one module or part of the training course?

No. You can’t skip ahead in the course material. You need to complete each module before moving on to the next.

There is a downloadable certificate available to you when you achieve 100% completion of the course.

Can I go back and watch the lessons again?

Yes. Your registration gives you and your co-workers access to all the material for 12-months. You can revisit the material at any time using your login and password.

What is included in the registration price?

  • 12-months access to the online course material 1 resource kit, delivered to your door
  • 50+ ready-made, downloadable resources to use with the children
  • An optional coaching call with one of our speech pathologists to help get you and your team started.

Can I have access to the program after 12 months?

Yes, most of our customers chose to maintain access to the course on an ongoing basis. This allows new staff to undertake training and allows access to all of the resources in the portal. The single user Educator membership will cost $275 for the first year and $99 on renewal. The Centre Educator membership will cost $550 for four users and $99 for each additional user in the first year. On renewal it will be $165 for 4 users and $44 for each additional user. We will contact you to let you know when your memberships is close to due, you can cancel anytime.

Can I share the resources with my colleagues?

Yes.

We recognise that educators usually work in a team. For this reason, when you register you will be able to nominate an additional 3 people to gain access to the online course and materials. These co-workers must be working in the same centre as you. That way, you can implement the program together.

If your company has multiple physical locations (or branches) you will need a new registration for each physical address. Included in the price is one resource kit per registration.

Can I buy more materials individually?

Please contact us at admin@soundsgoodtome.com.au with your request.

Do I have to wait until the beginning of the year to start using Sounds good to me?

No. You can start working with children at any time in the year. You work at your own pace. Some centres will implement the program over the 3, 6 or even 12 months.

Don’t worry if you don’t get through all the activities and modules in your first year. Whatever activities you do include, will benefit the children.

My service doesn’t have a big budget for extra toys and games. Will I need to buy a lot of extra resources?

No. The program is designed to be used within the routine of your centre and using only the resources you already have and those included in the resource kit and portal.

Many of the activities and games will use toys and books that your service already owns and uses every day. A lot of the teaching can occur through incidental and spontaneous play.

There are some structured play activities that you may choose to use. You will find some of these on the USB in your resource kit as well as links to great resource sites, many of which are free.
